Video: Pat Gelsinger Announces SAP Partnership With EMC for Comprehensive Solution For Private Cloud

Pat Gelsinger, president of EMC, announced on SiliconANGLE’s “The Cube” at Sapphire that EMC has partnered with SAP to deliver a comprehensive enterprise solution.

Storage and networking are becoming very critical in the new equation of the cloud computing paradigm. Pat goes on to talk about all this and more on SiliconANGLE’s The Cube at Sapphire in Orlando.

Notes:

EMC is touting their cloud strategy as this journey to the private cloud. EMC has a strong vision and many are agreeing with EMC.

The EMC VMware is a very powerful combination and partnership. Adding SAP to the mix with virtualization and storage a new enterprise model is now viable around the notion of cloud computing.

It’s all about data, data, and data. No end in sight for network and data traffic. SAP and Sybase is a good deal according to Pat Gelsinger. Own the database of the application that they are building – a very intelligent move by SAP.

Move to in memory databases is the opportunity to get large memory footprints with amazing performance. SAP recognizes that they can get amazing performance in access times up to 1000x improvement.

Back end storage and in memory (or edge based) has to be working in concert. EMC vBlock with SAP is critical in bringing the private cloud to the market.

Journey to the private cloud has three phases:  1) IP productivity with proven infrastructure – classic IT; 2) business critical applications when the business owners come in to drive the applications, and 3) Transformation and automation – all of it comes together applications, storage, servers,.

Impact on networking vendors is all about simplicity and management of the complexity.  Additionally mobility is critical and virtualization is at the center of what the networking guys are doing – 10G environments.

Customers need to think about their entire resources as “pools”.

Wintel was the old Intel and Microsoft monopoly and now with virtualization and cloud it’s not clear on who will be the next Wintel.

Pat believes that EMC will be part of the new guard and that is the main reason why he went to EMC.  Very interesting that EMC VMWare and SAP could be the new partnership that makes the market in this new era – open interfaces, standards based, revolutionary, tons of new apps.

We will see new infrastructure model and a new set of capabilities.  It’s a collision of old models.
