Track Feature and Improvements for Google Buzz

A feature similar to Google Alert is now available in Google Buzz. It’s called Track.  What’s notable about this new addition is its ability to narrow your search to a specific geographic area, and discard other areas  of no interest.  Receiving a notification in an active thread about favorite product, which used to be an exclusive feature of Google Alerts, can now be enjoyed with Buzz.

To use this feature, subscribe to the returned link of the query you entered in track endpoint. Or for a quicker turnaround, you can simply subscribe to a track endpoint via Google Reader.

Gnip and Superfeedr are already testing Track.   The two srvices are incorporating it into their API aggregation service but the feature is still tentative and under observation.  Expect availability through Gnip sometime next week.  Error messaging is one of the many things under enhancement. For a more detailed body of response in error messaging, they have included short links to the API count that returns the number of times a link was shared on Google Buzz.

The update speaks to many of Google’s other collaborative Apps projects, particularly those involved with speed and accessibility.  Google revealed the standalone real-time search homepage yesterday, and early reports of Google Phone via Gmail look promising for future development.  See here for more details on the new Track feature.
