Justin.tv Expands to Android Phones in Live Video Broadcast

Broadcasting live video from your Android phone is now available with Justin.tv.  The live, video-streaming service has launched an Android app, bringing the service to Google’s mobile platform.  Broadcasting live videos has never been so easy with this innovation for mobile phones.  Though Justin.tv might not be the first to market (Qik, etc.), it has some advantages in the form of hardware video encoding which enables it to drain less battery power and bitrate adjustment of videos uploaded to strengthen wireless connections.

You can start broadcasting by downloading it on your Android and registering for a Justin.tv account. You will never have to go to a website. It’s easy to use with only three buttons:  record, share and chat. Hit record and the video is live on air. You can opt to broadcast the video in landscape and portrait mode, and you can chat live with other users, viewing the broadcast as well. Share the link to Twitter or Facebook to invite more people which will redirect to a saved archive version if ever the broadcast is over.

Justin.tv CEO Michael Seibel believes that mobile apps can eliminate much of the hassle of limited streaming options and can broaden ways live video can be broadcasted.  Taking the step towards Android expansion means the company is dedicated to its mobile offerings, which will only increase in interest as quality and capabilities around mobile devices improve.  While we’re on the topic of Justin.tv, be sure to check out our channel, which is currently streaming TheCUBE live from VMworld 2010.
