Android Market Milestone: 100,00 Applications

Google is proud of their open-source’s latest achievement of over 100,000 apps, as announced an Android Developer’s Twitter account, but Google has not put out an official release just yet.

While this could be a huge figure for Google, it’s still only next to Apple’s App store with over 250,000 titles.

But the challenge does not end in the number — these application must cater the needs of users, ensuring that they get their money’s worth. App stores direction will always be pointing to the same direction as the users’ appeal.  Developers and consumers alike have come out in support of Android’s platform, and Google insists this is only the beginning of what it’s planned for Android.

The growth of the market is certainly a challenge for other platforms,  including Apple’s.  The company has already responded to Android’s impending threat, announcing plans for more mobile features incorporated into its laptops, complete with an App Store. However, Steve Jobs doesn’t seem too worried about a measly 100,000 apps.  His iTunes store has already surpassed 6 billion apps downloaded, with a higher ratio of quality apps in the market.

Android’s also facing a number of lawsuits, all hoping to slow down Android’s potential for dominating a large chunk of the early mobile market.
