Sprint Sells Samsung Galaxy Tab for Cheaper than iPad

Sprint would be selling Samsung’s Galaxy Tab for less than an iPod. The subsidized price is $399.99, but like most unbelievable offers, there is a twist to the deal. The subsidized price comes with a two year data package subscription plan with Sprint.

The Android-powered Galaxy Tab was unveiled earlier this year and the launch is timed to target holiday shoppers. It will be in direct competition with the iPad at Verizon Stores and would also available on the AT&T network soon. By launching the Galaxy Tab, Sprint is hoping that a good Android tablet can help it boost interest, as the Android Evo did with smartphone users. The Wall Street Journal reports:

Sprint plans to support the device a marketing campaign to promote the new category of tablets, according to David Owens, who is runs the carrier’s marketing for product launches. “It’ll be a substantial campaign and an important part of our holiday theme,” he said in an interview, but the effort wouldn’t be as strong as its marketing for flagship smartphones, such as its Evo 4G.

The tablet market is a booming one. The humongous positive response of consumers towards the iPad has attracted new entrants in the Tablet market. Just last week another competing tablet Slate from HP was also released.
