FrostWire P2P for Android a Beacon in Limewire’s Downfall

While there are several helper apps like Transdroid to support P2P application for Android, they serve mainly as a remote client for torrent sites like BitTorrent and Gnutella clients. With the availability of FrostWire, P2P transfer will finally invade smartphones. You can now share stored ringtones, camera photos, music and app.  A number of people are seeking alternatives for file sharing, since Limewire was shut down. This alternative is just epic.

While a Frostwire desktop version would be fantastic, it wouldn’t be too nice to download movies of 700MB with a 3G. And like other P2Ps, FrostWire has bugs too. File transfers don’t start sometimes.

There is a free version of FrostWire if you’re on cheapskate mode and don’t want to spend 5 bucks. You will be asked to provide to a nick name, then you’ll be asked to to choose a folder to share to the world. The entire content of that folder will be shared so you have to be cautious when sharing. You can distribute pictures, videos, applications, documents, music and ringtones.

This newest application works similarly as the P2P on desktops with an available chat room as well, and you’ll be chatting with thousands of people from all over the world. Download speed is pretty decent for pictures and small files.

FrostWire is undoubtedly bringing piracy into smartphones while RIAA is going after individuals to make a point to the public about file-sharing. It’s interesting that Frostwire is able to take this as an opportunity to make waves on a mobile platform, which could only be Android at this point.
