Socializr, a web service allowing users to coordinate party planning and invitations, was acquired by Punchbowl, Socializr’s bigger counterpart, in a deal that will forward the stabilization of Punchbowl in the party-planning market. The financial terms of the acquisition were not made public.
The timing of the acquisition is felicitous as the holiday season is getting closer: “Expanding our reach with the acquisition of Socializr will accelerate the growth of our company,” said Matt Douglas, CEO, Punchbowl. “We are excited to welcome Socializr customers to Punchbowl just in time for the holiday party planning season.”
Along with the news of the Socializr acquisition, Punchbowl has announced it will launch a new look for its website, plus a new feature – ‘a beautiful collection of free, pre-packaged, online stationery sets for events and celebrations, complete with invitations, envelopes, liners, rubber stamps, and postage’.
Punchbowl is a web service offering its over one million registered users a various range of features for planning parties on various occasions, from birthdays, anniversaries, religious celebrations, Thanksgiving dinners and engagement, simplifying activities like customizable online invitations, potluck organization, gift registries, local party vendors and so on.
The acquisition of Socializr demonstrated the expansion of the web-based services industry. In the last few years, Punchbowl had undergone several shifts to maintain relevance against the likes of eVite, Facebook and so on, each of these featuring diverse products, from different themes, templates and movie-trailer invitations, to traditional customized invitations and business uses.
