Stupeflix on Breaking Milestones for User-Generated Video

Stupeflix is not yet a known name in the video online platform, but they’re sure to find ways to show off their profile. The objective of the French startup was to simplify video creation, and its innovative idea was also awarded in 2008 at SeedCamp competition. Their philosophy lies in the customized videos, at very low prices, running the latest hardware technologies.  The Animoto competitor has been quietly revolutionizing the video-creation process for regular users, and has recently hit a major milestone: 1 million videos created.

With this short background, Stupeflix offers a broad commentary about its fiercest competitor, YouTube, which has broken a few industry records, including the 35 hours of video uploaded each minute.  From Jeff Boudier, VP of Business Development at Stupeflix:

“When you look at the progression of uploaded content on YouTube (I made a quick graph below), it is not just growing but has accelerated during the last year. This acceleration is due, in my opinion, to a range of new devices (starting with smart phones, tablets, now TVs) that are changing the way we consume content. Less leaning forward, more sitting back. Lots of content on the web isn’t adapted to the user experience expectations for these new devices: on the web you read, you scroll, you point and click. New devices demand mostly linear experiences. Large sites and web publishers are catching on to that trend, adapting their content to the format of video to provide this experience, consistent on all devices.

We see this trend very strongly at Stupeflix, as our API is a unique tool to transform web-formatted data (text, pictures, meta data) into video. Ecommerce sites want to transform their online catalog in product videos. Online directories start offering video ads to their SMB customers. Classified sites (starting with real estate) want to show property listings as videos. Video is the most efficient way of reaching people anywhere: any device, mobile, social. Out of all newsfeed items on Facebook, shared videos have the highest CTR. That’s why we started seeing more brands coming to us to power campaigns where users can personalize and share videos.

Because YouTube is a free hosting solution, the acceleration of the amount of content that’s uploaded on their platform is directly correlated to the acceleration of video content that’s being created in the world. As video cameras become ubiquitous to consumers, and as advertisers and publishers ramp up their video content offering, I think the acceleration we see has just started. ”
