The recently published “GreenList 500” is topped with IBM’s supercomputers, which are used in different areas of activity from studying astronomy to pharmaceutical research. IBM is the leading manufacturer for green devices, as it covers almost half of the first top 100 positions. Blue Gene, the exponent of the next generations of computers is announced to be launched in 2012.
The performances of the IBM’s green computers are pretty worthy of the title, as its performance is 77% more efficient than the second place item in the GreenList 500. Dona Crawford, associate director for Computation at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory comments on the edge of the subject:
"By reducing energy costs, we are able to make high performance computing (HPC) resources available to more researchers and their collaborators, advancing both science and the computing applications that make it possible."
The system enclosed in the Blue Gene’s processor chip design utilizes the advanced system of quantum chromo-dynamics (QCD) and was developed by Columbia University in collaboration with University of Edinburgh. Other high-end computers developed IBM include Power servers, System x iDataPlex or BladeCentre.
On the other side of ecological commodities, there is the increasing market of electric cars. The prospective analysis for U.S. market states that by 2013, almost a 4 million cars demand will turn into eco-friendly choices. The growth is as auspicious as the current demand for electric cars is about 35, 000. General Motors, with its Chevrolet Volt and Nissan with its Leafs are attacking the market, with positive prognostics.
