Google TV Releases 4 Exciting Software Updates

Aside from fixing bugs, Google TV has also been working on how to enhance the viewing experience on their platform. One of the selling points of Google TV, other than its constant struggle for better viewing experience, is its free software updates.  From Google’s blog,

“It’s been two months since the first Google TV device went on sale. Since then, we have been hard at work thinking about how we can make the platform even better for our users. In fact, one of the greatest things about Google TV is that it comes with free, automatic “over-the-air” software updates that give you the newest features and content as we release them. It’s as if Google TV goes up in value over time,” said Google.

Today, Google is excited to announced 4 major software improvements. First off is their partnership with Netflix, upgrading the application that enables customers to browse and watch any movie or show in the Netflix streaming catalog. You can add titles to your DVD queue as well, if you want them mailed. The app also gives personalized recommendations based on the previous movies you’ve watched.

Dual View, which allows you to browse and watch your favorite TV show at the same time, has an update too. You can now re-size and move your windows on the screen as you please.

Then there’s Google TV Remote control app. You can download it off the Android Market. Unlike your ordinary remote options like changing channels and accessing DVR, you can use integrated voice search to find your favorite shows and movies by speaking to your phone, or go from small screen to big screen by sharing videos and websites from your phone to your TV.

Lastly, a movie results page which shows all films associated to your keyword search–with sources like Live TV, Netflix and Amazon Video on Demand. You can also run through summaries, photos and cast lists. If you click a cast’s name, it will take you to a page showing other movies featuring that actor.

These updates will launch throughout the week, except Google TV Remote app which might not work until your device has received the update.

Online TV is really starting to pick up – SpotXchange, a video advertising solutions, raised $12 million in funding, proving the rising demand around web-based distribution and monetization.
