A Comparative Look at Twitter: Getting Social 2009-2010

This collection of infographics, themed around massive micro-blogging social network Twitter, provides a fairly extensive view on user activity statistics from 2009 to 2010. These enable an insight to the adoption of the social-network among Twitter users.

The first segment of the infographic shows that while 31% of Twitter users had a bio back in ‘09, 69% have one at present. Whereas users in ’09 with a name on Twitter represented 33% of all accounts, in 2010 they represented 77% of the same, meaning more trust in the social network, greater adoption and a willingness to expose more personal information.

Additionally, while 44% of Twitter users provided their location in 2009, 82% of users provided their location in 2010. Another figure which doubled itself within one year is the number of Twitter users with a URL to a website, which is 45% compared to only 22% back in ‘09. On top of this, the average number of friends per user break down reveals a 16% drop in the percentage of users with 0-friends as well as a 300% rise in the numbers of users with 100+ friends. On top of this, Twitter has seen a rise of 200% in the number of users with 100+ and a 14% decrease of the ones with 0-5 followers.  See all the comparative graphs here.
