Sonian Raises $9M for Round Two, with Investment from Amazon

Cloud archiving pioneer Sonian today announced a series B funding of $9 million. Existing investors Summerhill Venture Partners and Prism VentureWorks are still on the round, with participation from new investors Amazon.com and Webroot. The investment will be used for research and development of its archiving platform to deal with escalating demands, and for business expansion as well.

“We believe the rapid adoption of Sonian services highlights the market demand for cost-effective information archiving,” said Sonian CEO Jeff Dickerson. “The addition of Amazon and Webroot as strategic investors, with the continued participation of Summerhill and Prism, further underscore the opportunities ahead of us. This additional investment will fuel the next stage of our growth as we scale our platform and partner ecosystem.”

There will always be a need for email archive solutions regardless of enterprise type and size. Sonian Archive solutions leverages with the advantages of cloud computing infrastructures in order to deliver a scalable, simple and cost-effective solution for storage management and regulatory compliance.

Its not just Sonian Amazon’s interested in; Amazon has also made several other investments in the cloud services arena and beyond, while also developing out its own Web Services, making the cloud more scalable for small businesses and app developers. An investment where the cloud meets location and marketing is LivingSocial, a local leader in providing deals and shopping experiences. To attract more developers to its camp, Amazon is also currently working on an AppStore, based on Android’s OS.
