Lockerz Acquires Plixi, Joins the Photo Sharing Club

Social commerce site Lockerz announced it has acquired mobile and web photo sharing service Plixi for an undisclosed amount. The acquisition integrates the 1 billion monthly photos-worth Plixi with Lockerz Photos, and members of the social site will be able to utilize the service via Lockerz’ “friends-fwbs;)”.

“Lockerz Photos plans to continue providing the same functionality, as well as increased resources and services to developer partners. Additionally, Lockerz members will be able to upload, share with friends-fwbs;), comment on and rate their photos on Lockerz.com. “

The announcement also noted that new photo sharing features will be developed around the integration, including support for activity, photo and video sharing on other social networks.

According to the social commerce site Lockerz Photos will leverage combined web traffic of more than 31 million unique visitors per month. This means a lot of attention is about or at least expected to be redirected towards the nearly 18 million members-hauling Lockerz, and more importantly the rest of its incentive portfolio.

Plixi’s former name was TweetPhoto, and SiliconANGLE was there to cover its renaming, as well as its expansion beyond Twitter. CEO and founder Sean Callaha stands behind the new name, which corresponded to Plixi’s overwhelmingly female user base at the time.
