Windows Phone 7 on the Rise, so are Microsoft Earnings

Microsoft recently revealed some important numbers regarding its mobile operating system, cluing us in to its progress since launching late last year.  The company sold more than 2 million Windows Phone 7 devices in Q4 2010, which may be an indicator of steady recuperating in its mobile market share. Microsoft’s mobile share dropped from 7.9% a year earlier to 2.8% in Q3, but current WP7 customer satisfaction stands at 93% percent.

“Customer satisfaction for the product is at 93 percent and brand awareness has jumped 22 points to 66 percent since it was released, Greg Sullivan, a senior product manager at Microsoft, said in an interview, citing internal measures.”

Two million Windows Phone 7 however, may not be that big of a figure after all, considering the standing competition.  Nonetheless, these figures are significant when you look at all the promotional buzz Microsoft’s product was subjected to, as well as Apple and Android’s overwhelming market share.

In related news, Microsoft today announced a record-breaking second-quarter revenue of $19.95 billion, and the company’s full earnings report will offer more insight on its performance, beyond the mobile scene as well.

Going back to WP7, the latest update we covered is Millennial Media’s newly released SDK for the platform. Nokia is not out of the look either – the company’s profits for Q4 plunged 21%, while Samsung reported positive sales of 600K Galaxy Tab units within just a few weeks after its launch.
