The emergence of today’s “borderless organization” has caused a significant shift in security needs. It revolutionizes the way people work, going beyond the boundaries of being anchored in a definite work environment and other device limitations (goodbye desktop!). In line with this change, Cisco today announced a new highly distributed security architecture that manages security factors such as firewalls, web proxies and intrusion-prevention sensors with a higher-level policy language which are context-aware to accommodate business needs.
Dubbed as the Cisco SecureX Architecture, it is inclusive of context-aware security enforcement elements which are independent of physical structure, and can be deployed as appliances, modules and cloud services. It identifies the user, its role in the organization, and also determines the eligibility of that person to access the information.
Mobility, virtualization and cloud technologies are the factors that are steering the direction of this conversion. This security measure will run be implemented across all of Cisco’s security portfolio.
“Today’s business environment requires proactive, context-aware security that provides deep insight, control and operational efficiency,”says Tom Gillis, vice president and general manager, Security Technology business unit, Cisco. “Cisco SecureX Architecture and the Cisco ASA with context-aware firewalling represent a significant leap forward in allowing businesses to better embrace increasing mobility, virtualization and collaboration across business boundaries.”
The new security architecture also highlights new context-aware firewalling and policy enforcement for the Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA). By merging together local, global, and mobile frameworks using Cisco TrustSec, Cisco AnyConnect and Cisco ASA respectively, businesses will get a comprehensive look into their entire network infrastructure, plot better security strategy and come up with corresponding policies in compliance with fundamental business conditions.
Moreover, Cisco AnyConnect 3.0 adds real-time client-based threat telemetry to Cisco Security Intelligence Operations in order to expand its base of 700,000 existing network and content security appliances. It also supports Web security services delivered via Cisco IronPort Web Security Appliances and Cisco ScanSafe, the industry’s leading cloud security service.
Cisco’s far-reaching in its goals for borderless organizations, offering some mobile solutions as well. The company recently reported an explosion of mobile data traffic by 156 percent, and has deployed new products during the Mobile World Congress. It’s been doing well in the market, considering the escalation of shares in the latest quarter. However, it’s not just Cisco that’s been doing well with cloud service offerings. Juniper Network’s also up by .7 percent, while Alcatel-Lucent is up by 1 percent. Analysts expect Cisco to touch the $10.85 billion mark, a 4% increase, by the fiscal third quarter. Apart from profit and adoption to new cloud security measures, it’s also eying Inlet Technologies for an acquisition at $95 million, as well as pushing open mobile platforms along with Yahoo and Intel executives under the cloak of openness and interoperability at the Mobile World Congress.
