AppSense Gets $70M from Goldman Sachs, Builds Out Virtualization Solutions

UK-based virtualization solutions provider AppSense announced it has received a $70 million investment from Goldman Sachs. The sum will be used to accelerate AppSense’s growth and expand its share of the cloud virtualization market, which is expected to hit the $2 billion mark in a few years. Goldman Sachs managing director Pete Perrone will join AppSense’s board of directors.

AppSense offers data migration automation from physical to virtual desktops and between OS’s, as well as other offerings. These include employee training and cost reduction and license management, which all combine with a sizable customer base to form a major factor in Goldman Sachs’ investment in the company.

“With the increased mobility of the workforce and the need to be able to access information from any device, Goldman Sachs sees a clear demand for user virtualization solutions that span multiple desktop delivery methods,” said Perrone. “AppSense’s strong customer traction, history of innovative solutions in desktop computing, and the record growth it has experienced over the past two years further solidified our decision to invest in the company.”

AppSense has a global customer base of 4,000 and growing, which add up to tens of thousands of employees. Nevertheless, it’s not the only one working to expand its share of the virtualization market. Business communications vendor Avaya announced it’s extending its Virtual Enterprise Network Architecture (VENA) beyond the data center to the campus network. The virtualization offering now supports Ethernet Routing Switch (ERS) 8800 and 8600 products.

In addition to AppSense and Avaya, Parallels also released an update today. The desktop and server virtualization solutions leader Parallels announced it has promoted President Birger Steen to CEO of the company. Outgoing CEO Serguei Beloussov will continue to serve as executive Chairman of the Board and Chief Architect of Parallels.

“As company president, Steen oversaw the launch of the No. 1 selling and award-winning Parallels Desktop 6 for Mac and the widely adopted Parallels Plesk Panel 10. Steen was also instrumental in creating a “voice of the customer” program to help align Parallels and its product development more closely with its partners and customers.”
