U.S., Far East and China Will Lead Mobile Entertainment to $54B Revenue in 2015
Powerhouses United States, China, Japan and South Korea have one huge thing in common; their mobile markets are changing the pace of the game. In 2015, Juniper Research is looking at a $54B explosion of the mobile entertainment that will be primarily driven by Chinese intense love for ringback tone, while Japan’s and South Korea’s mobile games and video addiction has hit the US hard, becoming the hot-bed of mobile multimedia innovation.
The carrier of the world’s second-largest economy is now penetrating another sphere—information technology. But China has no intention to just be present, it is looking to dominate as an economic hotspot drawing global traction. Last year, the Far East and China were responsible for 39% of mobile entertainment revenues globally. On the other hand, North American growth, especially in the US, will pose a threat to the other competition as Juniper expects that largest boom of mobile entertainment in this region within the next 5 years.
There’s been tremendous competition within the mobile gaming industry. Android has just surpassed long-time leader, the iPhone, in revenue with an incredible 1,283% increase, and on the gaming side, Zynga is expanding exponentially with the acquisition of social game developer Area/Code— responsible for “Drop7″ and “CSI Crime City” for the iPhone and Android. A recent SMART Millennial Media report notes how video and games are shaping the mobile industry, and the cloud. Tablets are growing in tandem with these trends, inciting a new consumer market. With feature updates in HD and browsing capabilities, Google and Apple build their forces around devices such as the Galaxy Tab 7, Motorola Xoom and iPad 2.
Digging deep into mobile technology and trends, the real growth will be triggered by mobile ubiquity or global penetration of active SIMs, the rise of billions of mobile apps that will be triggered by the Apple generation: the rise of mobile entertainment circles its low cost trend around mobile internet adoption.
