Juniper Networks Joins Eclipse Foundation, Extends Open Software Development
Juniper Networks has announced its participation in the Eclipse Foundation, forwarding its steps in open cloud development. The Eclipse Foundation is a leading open source community, having millions of users working towards an open development platform and complementary products & services. By joining this community, Juniper has extended its open software development arm and hence capabilities to build applications on Junos software products.
On the other hand, Eclipse will also benefit from this association as its developers will also benefit from the opportunity to create new applications using Junos and Junos Space Software Development Kits.
“In joining the Eclipse Foundation, Juniper Networks can provide its customers and partners with a richer development environment for creating applications to optimize their network assets and create new revenue opportunities while reducing cost, complexity and time,” said Mike Harding, vice president of Junos Space Business Unit, Juniper Networks. “Eclipse is an elite organization and this is a great opportunity to bring faster productivity to new Junos software solutions.”
This partnership will open up new avenues for both Juniper and Eclipse as it will facilitate better tools & products to their customers. Giving his views on the association, Mike Milinkovich, Eclipse executive director said,
“Juniper Networks understands that open development platforms are critical to networking software. We are excited to add Juniper to our growing roster of members. As a member of the Eclipse Foundation, Juniper will provide the tools and frameworks needed by the Eclipse ecosystem to build Junos-based solutions.”
Earlier today, Juniper Networks also made an announcement for expanding its mobile internet portfolio. It will now provide high precision timing for time sensitive applications with its Juniper Networks TCA Series Timing Appliance. This TCA series comprises of TCA8000 Timing Servers, TCA6000 Timing Clients, and SyncEMS Management Software based on the technology acquired from Brilliant Telecommunications and deliver scalable & flexible timing for mobile networks. Having this in its portfolio, Juniper can now enable mobile operators to position cost effective carrier Ethernet and IP solutions along with providing a rich experience for mobile Internet applications.
“As mobile backhaul networks transition to packet-based transport networks, providing reliable clock synchronization over these networks has become a critical requirement,” said Rami Rahim, senior vice president of Juniper Networks. “The industry-leading technology assets from Brilliant Telecommunications will enable tighter integration in our mobile backhaul solution and extend our offerings to converged service providers, allowing them to deliver superior experience for multimedia applications which will dominate traffic in the future.”
