Big Data Is Not Expensive After All?
When people talk about Big Data, the picture has armies of servers along with the possible expenses, all of which could be overwhelming. But, in reality it is not. Having Big Data and Analytics, saving cost for the company, aligns with the ideals of cloud computing, as virtualized systems can operate more efficiently and at cheaper rates. Predicted to anchor the future of information technology, Big Data can be specifically valuable for large-scale data crunching that telecom service providers necessitate—these include applications such as social media analysis, customer mix modeling and network planning optimization.
In a Bloomberg interview, Cloudera CEO Mike Olson puts data into an enterprise perspective saying, “The web properties discovered this problem (big data) before the rest of the world. They had the entire internet that they wanted to ingest to index and understand. But in addition, when users visited their websites, their activity created more logs more user-generating content. They wanted to capture, mine and understand their users based on all that data.”
Bert Latamore of SiliconANGLE also sees the same potential of how Big Data will evolve, and later drive businesses to success. For one, customer analytics will be highly dependent on the information that will be harnessed from different criteria like number of visits, likes, posts, tweets and more. These things are of great interest to marketing strategists of various organizations. Another startups company, Infochimps made this concept the centrifugal force of their business as they sell, find and share all public data.
Another proof of the gleaming demand for data analytics is when Hadoop expressed huge confidence on Hadapt, known for data-intensive distributed applications, and funded its project. This was the same scenario for CrowdFlower as it secured $7 million funding from Series B.
Other notable buzzes that circulated within the Big Data craze is the WOT for social media that offers the protection of validated reputations across Facebook, Twitter. Aside from mere utilization, Big Data also can be monetized and become a source of income in the foreseeable future. These factors make Big Data a great starting point for startups.
