SAP’s Gateway Technology Out to Net Fresh Customers

The intricacies of modern life demands for a more flexible way of managing tasks. Tech companies are on the race of devising intuitive programs that will make these tasks accessible and easier to manage. Today, SAP launched NetWeaver Gateway technology, an open, standards-based framework for extending the reach of its business software to an exponentially larger number of users, developers and environments. It makes SAP applications accessible from any environment, tool or device, as well as allowing developers to flesh out new applications on their desired tools.

SAP’s new technology framework enables flexibility in development and deployment of solutions that won’t dislocate or compromise the cogs of a company’s current IT setting. And of course, there’s no better opportunity to announce, demonstrate and run through this new product other than during SAPPHIRE NOW. The conference was held this week on May 15-18, 2011 in Orlando, Florida.  Our mobile news desk theCUBE is covering the event with live, streaming interviews and commentary all week, here and on SiliconAngle.tv.

“With the release of SAP NetWeaver Gateway, we are freeing SAP applications from the confines of the desktop and enabling developers to create entirely new applications,” said Dr. Vishal Sikka, member of the Executive Board, Technology and Innovation, SAP. “With this technology, we reach an unprecedented level of openness that is unique among our peers. More than ever before, our customers can take advantage of new technology innovations that will change the way they work, the way they think about and design applications, and the way they compete and grow — all while ensuring the security of their essential business data.”

This kind of framework was promised by SAP to its customers a year ago, and now they are finally delivering it, ultimately increasing the reach of their investments as well. Gateway technology will bring SAP closer to their customers, providing teams with more intuitive ways to access business information from SAP’s network.

“We are continuously searching for new and exciting ways to engage with our end customers,” said Manish Choksi, chief strategy officer and CIO, Asian Paints. “We see the growing importance of social media platforms as a way for our consumers to interact with us. The pilot using SAP NetWeaver Gateway allows us to leverage the power of social media sites along with our SAP applications and create enhanced customer engagement, while deriving immediate business benefits. Insights from these social media interactions are captured through SAP NetWeaver Gateway in SAP Business Suite and are used by our product and marketing teams, providing them a true customer ‘pulsecheck.'”

As part of its initiative in building more flexible frameworks, SAP is planning to deploy HANA (High-Performance Analytic Appliance)on its cloud. HANA uses an in-memory computing engine, holding data to be processed in main memory for faster processing. It eliminates the need to read data from database, process it, then write data back to the data base. The reason why it’s going to be initially launched on SAP’s cloud only is because the company has no control over public clouds.
