Look Out for Lookout: Safe Browsing for Mobile Devices and Sprint Partnership
The unimaginable scope of mobile devices is the same thing that makes it vulnerable to all kinds of attacks, particularly cyber criminals. Since early this year, Google has been cleaning up its Android Market from the variations of malware assaults that struck more than 50 apps. Lookout became an instant hero when they discovered and exposed the malicious malware that compromised a significant amount of personal data. Today, Lookout opens two great chapters in their mobile security leadership in the market: the launch of Safe Browsing while surfing the mobile web and a team up with Sprint.
In an official statement, Lookout Mobile Security John Hering, CEO and founder, talks about the Safe Browsing features: “With new devices and the new 4G networks, it is even easier for people to use their mobile devices to stay connected while on the go, but consumers need to have the confidence to safely surf the Web.
“Safe Browsing leverages our global network that already protects millions of users from malicious applications. By extending protection with Safe Browsing, mobile consumers can feel safe surfing the web, accessing email and entering other personal information on their mobile device.”
With mobile security software almost becoming mandatory in smartphones and tablets, Lookout has partnered with Sprint to provide customers with protection against malicious sites, phishing scams and drive-by downloads. The premium version of the mobile security app powered by Lookout will include the following features: privacy, backup and restore, missing device, remote lock and wipe, security and management.
It’s an important way for Sprint to extend some consumer perks as well, offering an option to protect user devices along with the Sprint wireless network service. Sprint’s done a great deal to improve customer options, teaming up with Google for full Google Voice integration, and developments around NFC technology as well.
Arguably, mobile devices are the primary bearers of your personal data more than any other gadget—from important messages, phone contacts, listings and schedules. This is why mobile security looks to be an issue that’s larger than life in today’s world, and creates opportunities for businesses to fill in the gaps. In this light, experts predict that the mobile security software market will grow to almost 96% of its current size in the next five years.
Lookout’s been at the center of this movement, being one of the early security services to emerge specifically for the mobile market, and specific to Android’s platform. The mobile security company’s been able to anticipate what will likely happen with mobile security, in part because of its constant research and monitoring, and also because of Lookout’s core principles governing their take on consumer awareness. With third party app markets on the rise, Lookout’s been able to project several developments that have already taken place with Android in particular, for better and for worse. As Lookout pushes forward, we expect further innovations in the mobile security arena.
