Is Microsoft Looking to Go Head to Head with the iPhone 5 in September?

As a sort of disclaimer, I would like to begin by saying that this is all speculation based ona single report from Digitimes so it can be taken with a grain of salt. Digitimes is reporting that all new Windows Phones running Mango are going to launch this September.

We had already heard that the Toshiba-Fujitsu IS12T is expected to launch in that time frame, but according to Digitimes they are going to be joined by Acer, HTC, Huawei, LG, Samsung, and ZTE.

September is also when everyone is expecting Apple to launch the iPhone 5 so one has to wonder if this timing is purely accidental or is Microsoft pushing for a head to head with Apple?

I’m kind of hoping that this is all coincidental because my first reaction is that Windows Phone would take a bath in the tech press, which is predominantly Apple oriented.

However, if this is intentional, September could shape up to be a rather interesting month in the tech blogging world.

About Steven Hodson

In his own words, Steven Hodson is "just a cranky old fart who has been around the computer industry for more years than I can count." He doesn't like PR spin and "fanbois" irritates him to no end. While he is a Microsoft enthusiast, he is not an apologist, and has no qualms about giving leveling criticism where it's deserved.
