Open-source cloud storage platform provider Gluster announced that CIC, a maker of biometric signature verification solutions for the financial industry, has migrated to the cloud using Gluster’s offerings. The platform will run in CIC’s AWS and RightScale environment to maintain the security firm’s SLAs.
“Reliability and performance are the major focal points of our IT operations department and Gluster is providing us with a cloud storage technology that not only allows us to quickly deploy services on the cloud, but also matches and exceeds high availability and performance levels, as if deployed on premise at our client sites, “ said Nhan Nguyen, Chief Scientist and CTO at CIC.
Gluster’s flagship offering, GlusterFS, is open-source. That’s a major edge over some of its competitors, and one way of keeping that edge is by branching out and expanding the GlusterFS ecosystem. That’s the motivation behind the company’s partnership with OpenStack a few months ago, and the newly announced Gluster Connector. Connector is the company’s first contribution to the OpenStack initiative and works by connecting GlusterFS to the cloud OS, thus enabling the latter to access files that are not stored locally.
Word of Gluster Connector came shortly after the debut of GlusterFS 3.3 beta. V3.3 offers unified file and object data storage, and provides customer with the ability to make Amazon-like storage offerings for their own customers as well as more management options and decreased cost of ownership.
The last customer case study Gluster released was about another major new customer, cloud content distribution platform BrightCove. Gluster now powers BrightCove’s Video Cloud offering which is used by customers throughout 50 nations, according to the company. BrightCove cited the fact Gluster is open-source and consequetntly more affordable than traditional offerings as one of the reasons it has chosen it over others.
