Earlier this year, Google announced that it will merge Honeycomb and Gingerbread to create a new OS to be called Android Ice Cream Sandwich. Details have been rolling out slowly since the May announcement, but today there’s a few leaked images offering more information on the upcoming update to ICS, published by RootzWiki and the Android Police blogs. The images demonstrate ICS on a Nexus S Android smartphone.
The two sites highlighted some new features of ICS like a new blue droid, and a camera featuring built-in panorama mode. ICS could also launch with NFC integration with Google Shopper, a reasonable expectation given Google’s interest in NFC technology and a growing interest in daily deals meshed with local offers. The alleged screenshots also show a re-themed Gmail, but one of the most notable allegations for the new ICS is that it could come loaded on the unreleased Nexus Prime (a rumored HD/3D phone said to be manufactured by Samsung). The Nexus Prime is expected to have a tray with multiple apps in it, the Google search bar embedded on top like the Honeycomb update, the Honeycomb launcher and App drawer.
Though info has been leaked, the two sites are advising consumers not to hold their breath for the ICS release as it may take quite some time before Google officially launches it.
Samsung is debunking this leak and have stated that the said features are not accurate.
In a company post on their Blog, Samsung stated: “Some media have been reporting that Samsung is preparing to launch nine new smartphones and two new tablet devices. While Samsung is continuously working on new devices for our customers, the details being cited are not accurate in this case. We appreciate the interest in our upcoming mobile devices and will share more information once its available.”
Geek.com posted an article questioning the authenticity of the leaked ICS stating that all of the “features” shown can easily be done by editing the build.prop with an Android ROM and that the blue theme they are showcasing is the cyanbread default theme that comes with the ROM Cyanogenmod 7. The blog post sited more questionable features of leaked ICS and compared it with a previous leaked imaged stating that the previous leak is better than what RootzWiki and Android Police have.
The leaked info and images of the Android ICS may or may not be true for now. But don’t worry guys, the update will get here, sooner or later, with some cool features to boot.
