VMworld 2011: Red Carpet Roll Out for Cloud and Virtualization

The four-day VMworld 2011 conference finished with the uproar of the industry’s brightest stars. With more than 19000 attendees, it could very well claim a seat as of one of the most sought after occasions in the tech community.  In between are resounding consecutive days of successful launches in the cloud and virtualization.  And it has been faithful to its mantra: “Your Cloud. Own It.”

The event’s success actually make highlight-picking a tough job, but one theme that really stood out is VMware’s desire to take everyone down the road of its bolder vision for the next generation of information technology, focusing on services by way of innovative virtualization infrastructures and the exploration of cloud computing technologies.  In particular, VMworld has been marked with product and services releases and demonstrations and awarding of innovators.

VMworld: Where The Biggest Launches Happen

To say that VMworld has seen various product launches is an understatement. The conference is in fact the choice of small and big names in the industry to present their products in the market for the first time.

VMware itself has taken the podium to introduce to share the latest in their datacenter virtualization arm including a global connect expansion and vFabric Data Director, which targets to accelerate application cycles.  The company also partnered with AMAX on Hadoop Distributed File System or HDFS.

A cloud enterprise, Cloupia, demonstrated CloudGenie at the same event. This product is an iPad app for data center orchestration.  McAfee also announced its attendance to this year’s VMworld to discuss data center security for securing private cloud environments. Emulex has had its opportunity to inaugurate its enhanced I/O connectivity solutions, while a complete visibility for inspection of virtual network traffic across the cloud was presented by Net Optics.

NexentaStor also provided a session on key storage components for thousands of attendees.  FalsconStor showcased data protection and storage virtualization solutions at VMworld 2011 that will be integrated with VMware vCenter Site Recovery Manager 5 and VMware VAAI Support in Heterogeneous Storage Environments.  Then there’s ClearCube, which announced the general availability of cloud desktop 9520. EMC, VMware’s parent company, accelerates customers’ understanding and journey to the cloud via a session at the recently concluded VMworld 2011.

VMworld: Where Top Industry Innovators Are Recognized

Not only is VMworld 2o11 an event to witness changes and developments in different  enterprises, it has been an avenue for recognizing numerous performers in the cloud, storage, security and virtualization.  One of the early award recipients is AFORE, which copped the gold award for security and compliance for virtualization. Running on a three-year winning streak is Netuitive, which is regarded as the leader in innovative approaches to managing virtualized applications.

Being an established gathering, VMworld 2011 has also been visited by a number of top-ranked executives from companies like EMC, Wyse Technology, FalconStar, Fusion-io, NetApp and many more.  The insights of these leaders were captured by John Furrier and Dave Vellante in theCube.

With all the names in the business wanting to join the bandwagon, we see the disruptive force that is VMware—a concept that was further explained by Kristen Nicole in her SiliconANGLE.com article based on a panel hosted by theCube, live at VMworld.  The company is similar to a powerful engine working all day and night to create a better platform for cloud and virtualization—feats that will take a long while to be beaten out of the record books.

VMworld 2011 US version was held in Las Vegas from August 29th to September 1st.  The European leg is slated this October in Copenhagen.
