Hello, Moto! The Mobile Enterprise Awaits

Motorola Mobility is keeping busy amidst their impending Google acquisition.  Today reveals a new enterprise product  from 3LM, a company Motorola took in back in February.  3LM is a start-up that focuses on making Android a secured platform, and they’re now ready to launch their enterprise tool to bring corporate data to mobile devices, much like RIM’s software server does.

3LM is about to release a set of enterprise-grade security and management tools that will allow corporate IT departments to integrate Android devices into their systems as more workplaces are allowing personal devices of employees be used at work.

“I think we’ve managed to offer a win-win for IT and consumers,” said Tom Moss, chief executive of 3LM.

3LM’s Mobile Device Management plugs into a company’s IT infrastructure and allows administer users and devices using pre-defined Active Directory and/or LDAP groups.  IT administrators can remotely manage all connected devices with key features like remote installation of corporate applications, remote lock, remote wipe, device location and advanced password rules, as well as other standard enterprise device management policies.

3LM is the product of former Google Android employees Moss and Gaurav Mathur to take Android deeper into business as they saw that Google wasn’t the making the most out of Android’s potential.

Aside from 3LM’s take on the enterprise level, Motorola is set to launch RhoElements, an application development toolkit for mobile browser-based applications built on the Motorola WebKit rendering engine and enables software developers to effectively develop rich mobile applications using the latest HTML5 and CSS standards.

RhoElement features:

  • Compliant with HTML5, CSS3 and SVG Tiny 1.2.
  • Provides intuitive Javascript access to Motorola value add hardware such as barcode scanner and imager.
  • Includes support for WebSQL and application caching (enables development of offline applications)
  • Backward compatible with existing PocketBrowser applications

In the devices realm, MoMo also launched the ET1, a 7-inch, 1.4-pound tablet that runs the Android 2.3, a 1GHz dual-core processor, 8 GB of internal storage which can be expanded to 32 GB via microSD, a Gorilla Glass screen with a 1024 x 600 resolution, 8-megapixel back camera and front-facing camera, and can be pimped with an optional Bluetooth-connected barcode scanner and mag stripe reader, hot-swappable batteries, and secure system software.

And last, but definitely not the least, MoMo fans should mark their calendars for October 18 as Motorola and Verizon is about to launch Motorola Spyder, a 4.3-inch, 960 x 540 qHD Super AMOLED display, LTE-capable handset.  Click here for the teaser video.
