Feed the Elephant: Cloudera Raises Another $40 Million for Hadoop War

Cloudera announced today that it raised $40 million in series D funding from Greylock and Accel amongst other returning investors. This is a nice big round to help Cloudera keep up the Hadoop wars with Horton Works.

Clouder COO Kirk Dunn told me in an interview today that the company plans to spend the money on expanding both its partnerships and its international sales and marketing departments. “Obviously Hadoop is a global phenomenon,” Dunn said. “We want to be able to better support our customers in Europe and Asia.”

Also today Cloudera announced another in a long list of reseller partnerships, this one with NetApp. NetApp will sell and offer integration with Cloudera Enterprise. As with other partnerships, such as the recent SGI partnership, NetApp will provide initial support for Cloudera products with Cloudera offering additional support for escalated issues.

The Hadoop wars are obviously getting hotter, and it’s going to be interesting to watch how this plays out at the HadoopWorld event tomorrow. If you can’t make it to the event, we’ll be streaming it live with play-by-play commentary on theCube.
