With Thanksgiving and Black Friday fast approaching, rumors of tablets going on sale are buzzing at high pitch. There are lots of tablets currently available, and a lot more will soon be available in the market. But the question is, “Which one should you choose?”
Today, Barnes & Noble is set to launch their Color Nook 2 which is a tablet and not just an e-reader, called Nook Tablet. The new Nook looks much like the original, but thinner. It features a TI dual-core OMAP4 processor at 1GHz, 16 GB of storage which can be expanded to 32GB with a microSD, the same 7-inch VividView IPS LCD display found on the original NOOK Color, and access to streaming media services such as Hulu Plus, MOG, and Grooveshark over a Wi-Fi data connection.
It is said that the Nook Tablet will still focus its efforts on being an e-reader, which some think is its strongest selling point. Critics are comparing the Nook Tablet and Kindle Fire saying that Kindle Fire lost that ‘e-reader touch’ and Nook Tablet retained it. But the point is, if you want an e-reader and not a tablet, get an e-reader. But if you want a device that functions not just as an e-reader, get a tablet since there are a lot of apps available that let you use your tablet as an e-reader.
The price of the Nook Tablet is in the same price range as the Kindle Fire which is at $199, the Nook coming it at $50 more at $249. Expect the tablet to hit the market in the next two weeks, and take advantage of the original Nook’s new price at $199.
Amazon’s Kindle Fire is one of the many tablets launching before the official start of the holiday rush, but it’s also one of the most talked about. The Kindle Fire will be available by November 15. Amazon is already taking pre-orders for the tablet priced at $199. Other tablets to watch out for are Motorola’s Xoom 2 tablets and Hewlett-Packard’s Slate 2 tablet.
