Teradici Upgrades ‘PC-over-IP’ Solution

Zero client solutions provider Teradici released PCoIP Firmware Release 3.5.0 and PCoIP Management Console 1.7, the latest version of its user virtualization software with enhanced functionality for the enterprise.  The main highlight is version 3.5 of the PCoIP Firmware software, and first improvement is a significant performance boost:

“USB 2.0 Support with VMware View Sessions: With this new release, PCoIP zero client users can expect to see up to 3x improvement in transfer speed for bulk transfers (read and write) when compared to earlier PCoIP zero client firmware releases. The new firmware release also delivers greater flexibility by supporting a larger number of DVD drives.”

In addition to speedier access to company files and data, v3.5 can handle to 25 View Connection Server addresses and provides support for secure 100BASE-FX Ethernet over optical fibre connections. New support has been extended beyond 100BASE-FX alone to include IPv6 as well.

Security is another one of the main considerations behind the product update. Zero client devices powered by Teradici software pack 802.1X security leveraging EAP-TLS certificate-based authentication. This is extended via integration with Imprivata OneSign Virtual Desktop Access with VMware View, which lets users quickly access their virtual desktops by using one-click (or one-tap) ID badges. The final touch to v3.5 is the addition of “Help Desk” mode, which allows admins to log in users to preconfigured virtual machines with support directions.

VDI is a growing trend in the enterprise, which is not that surprising considering its growth is aligned to some extent with another rapidly-accelerating trend – the mobile worker. Different vendors, however, are pushing in different directions, from Teradici to Pano Logic. The latter has been busy introducing its VDI-in-a-box to the SMB market with new offerings.
