It’s A Holiday for Amazon, Samsung with High Sales Numbers

Amazon’s Kindle Fire and Samsung’s Galaxy Note evidently gained a lot of popularity during the holiday season.

The online retailer sold over 1 million Kindle units per week for the past four weeks. The new Kindle Fire accounted for the bulk of the device sold, followed by the  Kindle Touch and the original Kindle. Amazon has seen similar success in other markets as well, including several European countries – mainly the  U.K., Denmark, Spain and Italy, where Kindles were among the best selling products on the entire site.

“We are grateful to our customers worldwide for making this the best holiday ever for Kindle,” Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos said in a statement.

Gifting of Kindle books also skyrocketed 175% between this Black Friday and Christmas Day compared to the same period in 2010. Meanwhile, Christmas Day was the biggest day ever for Kindle book downloads.”

These latest figures indicate that the Kindle Fire managed to live up to all the hype, or at least a good portion of it.  Millenial Media’s November Mobile Mix  report found that impressions on Kindle Fire grew by 19 percent per day since launch, with expectations of hundreds of millions more throughout the next few months. These numbers represent slightly more buzz in the direction of Amazon’s Android tablet than what the original iPad got.

Samsung phablelt is phabulous

The retailing giant had a very merry Christmas, and so did Samsung. The Galaxy Note, a 5.3-inch smartphone and tablet hybrid (or a phablet, according to Jordan Crook) has shipped over one million units since its September launch. The device hasn’t made its debut in the U.S yet so there’s plenty of room for speculations, regarding both the upcoming version and whether or not it will manage to take over yet another market.
