Big Traffic Has Evolved WAN: Infineta CTO and VP of Products Discuss their Growth

Among the companies that attended last year’s Strata conference was Infineta, a provider of WAN optimization technology that has gone a long way since its foundation three years ago, according to two of its executives. Founding CTO KVS Ramarao and vice president of products Haseeb Budhani stopped by theCube for an interview with SiliconANGLE’s Alex Williams, in which they talked about their company and big data as a whole.

The first topic they decided to address is the transformation of the market, an area they revisited towards the end of the session. The two execs discussed how there have been a lot of changes to the market’s perception of the phrase big data since 2009, and especially throughout the past 12 months. Infineta itself got into the business of optimizing ‘big traffic’ when suddenly customers wanted to link together multiple clusters and use them to process their data across geographical locations.

Ramararo and Budhani proceeded to explain the reason behind their company’s fast rise in its particular market. They say that Infineta aims to lower cross-facility latency just like its competitors, but it differentiates itself by eliminating the added amount of ‘lag’ caused by the very technologies commonly used to try and mitigate the issues. This enables the firm to achieve about 50 microseconds of latency per site, compared to the milliseconds introduced by other offerings. They also stressed that there’s value involved too, and the amount of data being transmitted is considerably shrunk at the same time.

Towards the end of the interview Ramararo and Budhani covered some of their plans for the future. Infineta is apparently looking into how predictive analytics can be used in its clients’ deployments, and is working on getting certified to run its software on EMC hardware. They didn’t rule out the possibility of a team-up with flash storage provider Fusion-io further down the road.
