Cloudera is one of the handful of companies spearheading the enterprise solutions around big data and Hadoop, the open-source analytics engine that has been transformed from being an Apache-license to a full-blown industry trend. Cloudera is high up in this ecosystem’s food chain, and its latest hires are meant to further promote its status in what is becoming an increasingly competitive marketplace.
First up we have Alan Saldich, joining the company as the new VP of Marketing. He previously worked for Riverbed Technology in a similar leadership role, and has accumulated a total of 22 years of experience working in the IT industry. By the time he finished his tenure at Riverbed the company generated annual revenue of $400 million, and has ballooned to an enterprise of 1,400 employees.
The second new executive Cloudera picked up is Tim Stevens, who is now the Hadoop distributor’s vice president of business and corporate development. Stevens is another tech industry veteran who is used to accelerating companies’ growth, most recently QuinStreet where he held the very familiar title of SVP of business and corporate development.
“Both Alan and Tim are industry leaders with exceptional track records, and their experience and expertise will be significant to Cloudera’s success during this phase of rapid growth and expansion,” said Mike Olson, CEO at Cloudera. “We welcome Alan and Tim to our management team and look forward to the positive impact each will have on extending Cloudera’s market leadership.”
Cloudera is pushing in several different directions to realize an agenda of future growth. One means is strengthening its management team, while partnerships, R&D and some recent community development fall under additional categories. Earlier this month the company announced HBaseCon, a gathering organized to create an industry discussion around the database and encourage community members’ participation.
