HotelTonight Expands Last Minute Hotel Deals Internationally

HotelTonight, the iPhone and Android app for hotel booking, is going international. The made-for-mobile app is now available on iPhone, iPod Touch, and Android in Canada with initial hotel booking offerings in Toronto and Vancouver and plans to add other Canadian and international cities later this year.

The app is built for last minute travelers who decide to stay in the city for the night rather than head home.  The mobile app offers hotels ranging from luxurious rooms to basic rooms when you just need a place to crash. With Canadian support, you can now pay for the room using Canadian dollar. The company has also added support for British Pound and Euros for non US travelers who want to use the mobile app services and pay in their currency.

“By introducing HotelTonight to Canada, we’re taking a first step toward bringing spontaneous and last-minute hotel deals to the international marketplace. We’re thrilled to be fulfilling a need in Toronto and Vancouver; the demand for these locations surpassed even the requests for domestic cities. We believe our users will continue to take us across national and even continental borders,” said Sam Shank, CEO, HotelTonight.

The hotel booking deals are updated on  HotelTonight at noon each day, with mobile-optimized hotel photos.  Guests can book rooms any time between noon and 2am local time.

HotelTonight has experienced rapid success with over 350,000 downloads since its launch in January 2011.

HotelTonight already offers rooms in a number of major US cities, but obviously, international expansion is a big part in achieving the company’s extended goals. The mobile deals are currently available in over 35 destinations in the U.S. and Canada.

Hospitality gets comfy with mobile

The benefits of mobile technology for the hotel industry are widespread, with mobile web sites making the booking process more accessible, user friendly and able to provide a rich understanding when searching for a facility, from initial research to the reservation.

Mobile devices have already made an impact on how travelers engage and interact with hotels. Mobile apps like Expedia and Priceline are already gaining popularity among travel users and more hospitality vendors are coming out with their mobile-ready travel apps.

LodgeNet Interactive Corporation, the provider of media and connectivity solutions designed to meet the unique needs of the hospitality industry, had some news of its own today, revealing a new mobile checkout (mCheckout) feature to the LodgeNet Mobile app.

The mobile feature provides convenient options for checking out of hotel room from any location via mobile device, eliminating the need for queuing at the front desk, particularly during peak hours. mCheckout also offers access to hotel amenities like dining and spa reservations, as well as local area information and services.

AFAR, the multi-platform travel media brand, also launched their AFAR mobile app this week. With the mobile app travelers can share, curate and discover travel stories among other experiential travelers, make connection and post comments.
