Your Favorite iPhone 5 Rumors: Readers’ Picks

Some of you may already be sick of reading about iPhone 5 rumors, but we just can’t get enough.  But even if the rumors are better than what Apple releases, I’m sure we’ll see hoards of people waiting in line overnight, just to be the first to get their hands on the new iPhone.  Remember when Apple released the iPhone 4S?  Everyone was complaining that it was just like the iPhone 4, but come sale day, millions flocked to Apple stores around the world.

So of the rumors we’re hearing about the iPhone 5, what interests people the most?

Bigger, thinner screen

A lot of people are complaining that the iPhone’s screen is too small, and people with bigger hands have a hard time texting or sending e-mails.  So people are really curious if the next iPhone will be bigger, with 4-4.6-inch screen?  And if that’s true, it wouldn’t hurt if the next iPhone were slimmer to make up for the bigger size.  Rumor has it, they’re using in-cell touch panels, which would make the phone slimmer as it eliminates the need for an additional screen.

NFC

Companies are pushing for cashless and cardless transactions, as it would be easier for both merchants and customers.  The merchants just need a station for consumers where they would tap their NFC devices and the transaction is complete.  As more people understand the advantage of this, the question now is, will Apple join the race?  Will the iPhone 5 really have NFC and will it be used for that purpose?

Nano SIM

Every smartphone or mobile phone needs a SIM card so consumers could use it to call, send SMS/MMS and to have access to the internet in the absence of a WiFi network.  We used to have some hefty SIMs but as OEMs makes more advanced smartphones, the SIM size seems to be getting smaller.  If you thought Apple’s micro SIM was small, then you might get the shock of your life when the new iPhone comes out.  Rumor has it, the new iPhone will be using a nano SIM, smaller than the micro SIM but not so small that you would need a microscope to find it.

Appearance

Some sources say that the iPhone 5 will have a teardrop shape with an oval home button, but others say it will still look much like the iPhone 4S, just slightly bigger.  It wouldn’t hurt if Apple changed the appearance a bit, as it would likely push people to buy, signaling to the world they’ve gotten the newest iDevice.  Another thing: some say Apple is using LiquidMetal for the back cover, as it’s virtually indestructible.  So those who often drop their iPhones won’t have to worry as much.

Camera

The iPhone 4S has an 8MP rear camera and a VGA front camera.  Rumor has it, the iPhone 5 will have an 8MP or even higher rear camera, and a 2MP front camera.  We can’t deny it, we all use our phones as our primary camera these days, so we’re constantly looking for smartphones with better cameras.  Aside from smartphones being more accessible, it’s easier to share photos using our smartphones.  The Nokia has a 41MP camera on the PureView and Samsung has the smart shot wherein it chooses the best photo, and BlackBerry gave a preview of their BB10 device wherein you can dial-back so you never have photos with your eyes closed.  So Apple better bring their A-game and give people better than 8MP.
