VMworld 2012 is going down this month from the 26th to the 30th in San Francisco. VMware itself hasn’t announced any major updates in a while, so it’s safe to assume the company is saving a few things for the event, but that didn’t stop partners from sending out a few memos to the press.
One company that will be attending the gathering is Virtualization Practice, a consultancy that will be represented by several of the speakers scheduled to go on the podium. Bernd Harzog is the firm’s expert on “virtualization performance, capacity management and IT as a service,” and his keynote will focus on handling data in today’s enterprise. He won’t be talking about analytics though – he’ll talking about the need for internal IT to adapt to technological shifts, which in turn include big data. Four other Virtualization Practice experts are also scheduled to speak at the event as well.
As for product updates, a handful of companies already have things lined up for VMware 2012. Acronis for one will be showing off the latest versions of its Acronis Backup & Recovery and vmProtect solutions, which will be in beta stage by August 26. Acronis will be sharing a booth with partner SolarWinds, which will be demonstrating its vSphere management solutions.
OpenStack distributor Piston Cloud will be attending as well, and the company also has a pretty big update up its sleeve – it will be demoing BOSH integration with Piston Enterprise OpenStack.
BOSH is a tool developed by VMware to help service providers and platform owners to optimize their solutions for Cloud Foundry, its open-source PaaS. That covers everything from configuration to maintenance – Piston adding support for the engine room toolset means that enterprises will be able to run Foundry on OpenStack.
