Bloomfire is a small team that recently dove head first into the highly-competitive social media scene with a LinkedIn add-on that brings a whole new layer to the business-oriented social media site.
LinkedIn is so popular because the platform is specifically optimized for networking in the corporate jungle. It offers job seekers, head hunters and corroborate users a lot of added value that Facebook just doesn’t have, but the social network makes very little to go beyond just the “network.”
Bloomfire is offering a rounded-out content creation platform for LinkedIn Groups that doesn’t require plug-ins or external tools, and is just as easy to use as it is to set up, according to the company. The goal is to make the social network viable for workers, and at least on paper Bloomfire seems to have accomplished just that.
The Austin, Texas-based startup’s software offers video and screen recording tools, as well as a file sharing system that has no storage cap and supports “virtually any file type,” from presentations to a video you just recorded with Bloomfire.
“LinkedIn Groups are now even more useful,” said Bloomfire CEO Craig Malloy. “Bloomfire for LinkedIn Groups expands how we communicate in LinkedIn so we can share knowledge by showing instead of just telling or linking to outside content. Once a user switches on Bloomfire for their group, they can create and share original, rich content right inside their LinkedIn Group.”
Malloy has a track record of coming up with some very good ideas. He founded ViaVideo and LifeSize, which were acquired by Plycom and Logitech respectively; Bloomfire in turn already bagged a few big name clients, including Comcast and Tiffany & Co.
Path.co is also making its appeal to the working man. The startup offers extra value to LinkedIn users, only it caters to job seekers with a platform that makes it easier to get their credentials out there.
