HotelTonight Expands to Eateries with PrimaTable Buy

HotelTonight, the platform that provides easy mobile booking of same-day unsold hotel inventory for last-minute hotel bookings, announced their acquisition of San Francisco-based PrimaTable, developers of last-minute perishable inventory demand forecasting and pricing tools for the restaurant industry.

PrimaTable’s sophisticated platform offers diners access to top restaurants while providing restaurants the ability to optimize revenue and better manage their scarce table resources.  With the acquisition and integration of PrimaTable’s platform into their own, it could solidify HotelTonight’s position as the preeminent expert in yield management for mobile commerce. This would bring them a step closer to perfecting the first ever real-time commerce platform to power the mobile generation.

“We’re thrilled to be working with the PrimaTable team to continue to make booking a hotel room at the last-minute a seamless and magical process for consumers, and a windfall for hotels,” Sam Shank, Co-Founder and CEO of HotelTonight said.  “When we look to acquire companies we look first and foremost at the talent. It’s clear that we struck gold with the PrimaTable team – not only are they brilliant, they also have more experience solving these problems than practically anyone else in the world.”

As part of the acquisition, the entire PrimaTable team will be absorbed into HotelTonight with Jamie Davidson, Co-Founder and CEO of PrimaTable, serving as HotelTonight’s Vice President of Product and Colin Zima, Co-Founder of PrimaTable, will be HotelTonight’s Data Scientist.

Davidson previously worked as part of the team of quantitative experts charged with optimizing the display algorithm at Google before launching PrimaTable in early 2012.  At HotelTonight, he’ll be focused on product vision and execution, while Colin spent the last four years improving Google’s search-ranking algorithms. At HotelTonight, he’ll be working closely with Davidson on the data, statistics and analytics that underlie the HotelTonight platform.

“Joining HotelTonight was a clear and obvious choice for us. We chose HotelTonight because of their traction, and for the opportunity for us to realize our vision and change the way consumers transact with the world around them,” Davidson said about the acquisition.  “We’re beyond excited to be a part of the HotelTonight team and continue to build the concepts and paradigms that will define the future of m-commerce.”

Think of the acquisition as something that would greatly benefit travellers.  Imagine how awesome your trip would be if you were able to book a nice hotel room at the last minute, then having access to a great deal at a restaurant that you’ve heard is simply a must try?

HotelTonight has certainly been busy, even before the acquisitions started up.  Last September they released the version 4.0 of their iOS and Android app, bringing expanded hotel offerings that are personalized for each user.  The update aims to turn HotelTonight into more of a service, hoping to differentiate itself amongst a growing number of hotel-booking and search apps available for mobile.  And with the acquisition of PrimaTable, HotelTonight is clearly on its way to dominate the real-time commerce platform.

Speaking of acquisitions that make sense, Ancestry.com, the online family history resource, acquired 1000memories, a San Francisco-based startup that helps users digitize old family photos.  With the acquisition, Ancestry will be able to expand their offerings as users will now be able to upload photos of their family members and add images to their family tree.

“Ancestry.com tries to help people preserve family memories lost in the world, and we help them preserve memories lost in people’s closets,” said 1000memories co-founder Rudy Adler. “Our missions are similar, and we feel like working together is a great fit.”
