Barack Obama Breaks New Twitter Records: President of Social Media

Barack Obama has been re-elected as the US’ president and the world’s most powerful and influential man.  Aside from ruling the election, Obama and everything about him were the most popular topics on the social sphere on election night.

When the results of the elections were announced, Twitter claimed that “conversation on Twitter surged, hitting a peak of 327,452 Tweets per minute (TPM),” and before Obama took the stage, he tweeted “Four more years,” with a photo of him and Michelle Obama locked in a sweet embrace.  The tweet has been retweeted 650,675 times and has been favorited by 220,723 followers at the time of this writing.

Obama’s tweet now holds the record for most re-tweets which was previously held by Justin Bieber for his “RIP Avalanna. i love you,” tweet with 223,405 re-tweets and 100,607 favorites.  The tweet was in memory of the late 6-year old brain cancer victim, Avalanna Routh, who “married” Bieber.

Obama’s famed Twitter photo was uploaded on Facebook with the same caption, where it garnered 3,248,633 likes and 401,562 shares at the time of writing.  Facebook also had a dedicated page that focused on election day, America Votes, which showed how many people have voted and at what time the voting peaked.  According to Facebook, there were 222,233 male voters, while females were in full force at 431,401.  Those in the 25-34 age range were the top voters at 32 percent, followed by 18-24 year-olds at 30 percent.

Singer/actress Beyoncé Knowles finally joined Instagram on election day and her entrance was, without a doubt, splashy.  The first photo she shared on Instagram was a photo of her pulling a shirt with “Texans for Obama” printed on it.  On Monday, Beyoncé published a letter to Obama on her website that showed her appreciation and admiration for the re-elected president.
