Beyond the “Gawky” Years, Intel Moves Big Data Forward

At the O’Reilly Strata Conference last week, Pauline Nist, General Manager of Enterprise Software Strategy at Intel, stopped by SiliconANGLE’s theCube and discussed with hosts Dave Vellante and John Furrier how Intel is responding to the revolution of Big Data, and it’s plans on moving forward.

Nist highlights that as Big Data moves out of its “gawky middle school years” and is really beginning to be taken seriously, Intel’s biggest commitment is to smoothly integrate big data into what a lot of the world already has. She affirms that Intel is taking charge with this objective, since they are aware that not every consumer in the world is going to run on the same platform, nor will they walk away from the environments they already have.

As John Furrier asks about Intel’s plans for longevity, Nist assures us that the game of data collection is constantly changing, citing that, one day soon, even products such as automobiles will be connected to the internet, continually expanding the horizons for data acquisition. She states that Intel’s partnership with SAP AG is a useful tool to stay on top of this high-speed data gathering game.

Everyone always worries about the variety of data, Nist explains, but it’s also about the volume, the velocity, and responding to it in real-time. SAP AG has been a beneficial partner, bringing in huge amounts of data from the established base they have been servicing, and now even beginning to automate this data collection and analysis.

Nist assures us that Intel is serious about bringing developments to the Hadoop world and data programming, and it all begins with taking advantage of patnerships with companies who are delivering end-point solutions.
