A Look at NVIDIA’s Project SHIELD from GDC 2013
If you are a lover of The Conduit HD, the good news is that NVIDIA is going to make your playing experience even better and wilder with its Project SHIELD. This fast-paces shooter game from Nintendo Wii is coming up with a TEGRA-4 enhanced version on Project SHIELD, and has been designed to give players ultimate fun and thrill. NVIDIA unveiled this version at Game Developers Conference 2013 at San Francisco.
The USP of the game is that it comes with practically endless customization options, as you can customize and tailor the game play to fit your style. The game is set in future, and has you battling 14 unique enemies–each with their own tactics, strengths and weaknesses–using 18 different weapons.
As effortless as it sounds, creating this game version was certainly not easy for NVIDIA. With its program manager working tirelessly over 14 hours a day for several months, it won’t be wrong if I call this Project SHIELD simply incredible. Hundreds of other NVIDIANs have toiled away for months on the project in secret, and the outcome is great!
“We couldn’t prove that it couldn’t be done,” says NVIDIA Senior Vice President of Content and Strategy Tony Tamasi, who has quietly led NVIDIA’s interactions with game developers for more than a decade.
“So we decided it could be. We’ve been talking on and off about building something for more than five years, maybe 10. We wrote all the core software to hook Android games to controllers. Then we thought ‘Why don’t we just build a device with a great controller built in?”
TEGRA-4 enhanced The Conduit HD is available on Google Play, and is free to play. And with Project SHIELD, it’s free to play the way you want.
So, if we talk about cloud gaming, this one was a perfect example. In fact, cloud-based streaming technology that has been so far successful in movie and music industry, is now winning accolades in the gaming industry as well.
With this new development, NVIDIA is building on a unique legacy in gaming graphics and graphic performance to lead the way in defining the cloud-gaming experience. This way, NVIDIA has laid down the foundation of Gaming as a Service (GaaS) where gamers get freedom from purchasing expensive consoles. They don’t need any hardware or installations, can play on any device, and have access to a huge library of gaming titles at an affordable price.
