Raspberry Pi Up For Sale, and Sold Out Too

The much-awaited Raspberry Pi Model A became available for sale on Easter in the United States. With a price tag of $25, this credit card sized computer is selling through Texas based Allied Electronics, the first local retailer selling the Raspberry Pi in the US. But as soon as the device went on sale, it got completely sold out in a short time, leading to zero availability of Raspberry Pi Model A.

Here’s what Allied Electronics has on its website:

“Due to limited supply of the Raspberry Pi Model A, we are not offering preorders or backorders on the product at this time. The Raspberry Pi Model A will only be available for purchase when we have inventory on hand to fill the order. We regret this inconvenience and sincerely thank you for your patience.”

The Model A is an even-budgeted version of already economical Raspberry Pi. With its reduced price tag, Model A doesn’t have an Ethernet port and comes with just a single USB port. The benefit of absence of the a USB and Ethernet port means that the Model A just needs a third of the power as compared to Model B. Other features of Model A include:

  • 256 MB RAM
  • Single USB 2.0 socket
  • No Ethernet port
  • Linux operating system
  • HDMI socket
  • SD card socket
  • 3.5 mm audio out socket
  • Raspberry Pi HD video camera connector
  • Size: 85.6 x 53.98 x 17mm

Back in February, everyone was talking about the Raspberry Pi and its availability. And of course the credit goes to its ultra low price tag. Last year, Model B was released at the $35 price point in Europe.
