Twitter Music Launching at Coachella

In today’s mobile and social news roundup: Twitter Music to launch at Coachella; Apple to sign iRadio licensing agreement; BlackBerry 10 is non existent; LinkedIn acquires Pulse; and Apple agrees to settle class action lawsuit.

Twitter Music to launch at Coachella

Twitter has confirmed rumors that it has acquired We Are Hunted, a music discovery service, last year and its team had been busy working on a music app for the microblogging service.

Sources familiar with the matter states that Twitter will be launching Twitter Music at Coachella Valley Music and Arts Annual Festival over the weekend.  Twitter Music will suggest songs and tracks to Twitter users based on the accounts they follow, and will be able to listen to music clips from inside the app via third-party services such as SoundCloud and iTunes.  Music video can also be watched in the app via Vevo.

Apple to sign iRadio licensing agreement

In February, rumors regarding Apple launching a cloud music service resurfaced.  Though it may seem Apple is coming in late in the game, some believe that the Cupertino company still need a cloud-based music service and iDevice users are actually looking forward to it.

According to reports, Apple will soon sign a licensing agreement for its cloud-based music service with Universal Music Group, the largest major record company.  The two have apparently reached the final stages of negotiations and a deal with another music label, Warner Music, will soon follow.  iRadio, which the media has dubbed the service, is said to be launching later this year.

BlackBerry 10 is non existent

When Research in Motion, now known as BlackBerry, unveiled the Z10, some believed it was worthy of competing with the iPhone.  Unfortunately, months after it has been released, consumers aren’t even aware that it’s already out in the market.

According to a poll conducted by MKM Partners, 83 percent of Americans do not know that the Z10 has launched and is already available for purchase.  Others have reported that 71 percent have no intentions of purchasing the device and those that did acquire it, 50 percent of them returned the Z10 stating that they were not satisfied with the platform.  It looks like BlackBerry hasn’t found the right “Keys” after all.

LinkedIn acquires Pulse

LinkedIn has announced that it has acquired mobile news aggregator Pulse for $90 million.  This acquisition hopes to make LinkedIn the ultimate professional platform.  With Pulse, LinkedIn could become place where professionals consume and share content.

“Millions of professionals are already starting their day on LinkedIn to glean the professional insights and knowledge they need to make them great at their jobs,” Deep Nishar, Senior Vice President, Products & User Experience at LinkedIn, wrote.  “We believe we can help all professionals make smarter and more informed business decisions leveraging all the great business knowledge flowing through LinkedIn in the form of news, Influencer posts, industry updates, discussions, comments and more.”

Apple agrees to settle class action lawsuit

Apple has agreed to pay $53 million as a settlement for a class action lawsuit filed against the company.  The lawsuit was filed after Apple refused to repair or replace iPhones or iPod Touch no matter what the problem was with the device if the indicator tape placed near the headphone or charging port turned from white to pink or red.  The changing color of the marker indicates that the device has experienced water damage but 3M, the company that supplies the indicators, stated that humidity could have caused the markers to turn pink.

The settlement will be filed in a San Francisco federal court in the coming weeks and hundreds of thousands of iPhone and iPod Touch owners whose warranty were not honored will receive cash payouts.
