Cloud Review: App Deployment, Google and Mobile

Last week ComodIT introduced a new solution that helps users deploy backend server applications, Google had a couple of major service updates, and Sauce Labs launched a hosted testing platform for mobile developers. ChatWork also made a splash when it came out with two new features and announced that its offering has officially become available for U.S. customers.

ComodIT launched an automation service that enables users to download and install enterprise server applications as if they were mobile apps. Developers can give their users access to the company’s “Direct Install” button by simply embedding a few lines of HTML code into existing web pages.

Google also earned a spot in the limelight with the news that it has tripled the amount of storage available for free users from 5GB to 15GB. That’s more than seven times the capacity available with free Dropbox accounts. News of the upgrade came a couple days before the search giant unveiled Google Play MusicAllAccess, its long-awaited music streaming service. Google’s cloud-based platform has an edge over Spotify because it’s available on Android devices and doesn’t require desktop users to download a special client.

Sauce Labs, a provider of cloud-based application testing solutions, caught our attention last Tuesday when it released the source-code for Appium on GitHub. The open testing framework supplies developers with a virtualized environment that enables them to polish user experience across iOS, Android and web-based platforms.

The last item comes from ChatWork, a Japanese provider of cloud-based collaboration solutions. The company marked its entry into the U.S. market this week by adding videoconferencing and screenshare capabilities to its flagship offering, which has become immensely popular in Japan and other international markets.
