E3 2013: Sony to Unveil 85 New PS Vita Games by the End of the Year

We witnessed game after game at the Microsoft E3 press conference. Now it is the turn of Sony. Sony finally drew the curtain back on the PS4 console. The new PlayStation 4 will feature services like Music Unlimited on the first day of the PS4’s availability just a day before the E3 event.

When the Sony conference was held in pre-opening of E3 2013, Sony started with the PS Vita. Sony revealed that along with changes to PS4 and PS3, PS Vita will be seeing a massive push by the company.

What is Sony going to do with PS Vita? Sony Computer Entertainment of America president Jack Tretton announced that 125 games already released on PS Vita and we will be seeing 85 new titles by the end of 2013. The continuation titles like Batman: Arkham Origins, God of War 1 and 2 and The Walking Dead will feature in that list. The PS Vita will become an even bigger companion alongside the PS4 with features like Wi-Fi powered ‘remote play’, which will enable PS Vita’s access to the current 650 game library.

New Stable of Games for PS Vita

Using an airplay like feature, the PS4 will let you stream PS4 titles to your Vita with the help of streaming service Gaikai. Amongst all the PlayStation 4 news, Sony showcased a host of trailers to accompany some of the upcoming Vita games. Here are the lists:

The Walking Dead

Telltale Games has confirmed the good news: The Walking Dead Season 1 will arrive on the PlayStation Vita. This release is part of a broader wave output that should allow the Vita to enter a new cycle. The Vita version of the game will be directly offered as a bundle with the extra episode The Walking Dead: 400 Days.

Killzone Mercenary

Developed by Guerrilla Cambridge, the eagerly-anticipated PS Vita exclusive Killzone: Mercenary will be releasing on September 4th in Europe, September 6th in the UK and September 10th in North America. Once again, the title impresses with its graphic quality and treated stages.

Killzone: Mercenary takes place between the first and second games. You’ll be playing as a mercenary who can take either side, be it the ISA or the Helghast. Killzone: Mercenary is currently under development at Sony-owned studio Guerrilla Cambridge.

CounterSpy

Developed by Dynamighty, CounterSpy game revolves around an organization called C.O.U.N.T.E.R., and the game itself takes place during the Cold War as two opposing Super Powers embroiled in a frenetic Arms Race that threatens the existence of humanity. CounterSpy is a side-scrolling game and is entirely single-player focused.

Destiny of Spirits

A new free-to-play social experience, Destiny of Spirits is a location-based strategy game where players from around the world work cooperatively in turn-based action to battle fierce bosses to unlock an expansive virtual world.

Developed at Sony-owned Studio Japan with help from Q-Entertainment, the game places players on a global map, creating a hyper-social experience, where the player is connected to and working with others collectively to progress and unlock powerful new Spirits that can be unleashed during combat to defeat enemies.

The game is built on Sony’s new Destiny Engine, and promises hours and hours of dynamic content with the option to purchase items to create an even better experience.

Doki-Doki Universe

The cross platform free to play game contains simulated living Universe of intriguing content, filled with interactive stories and self-discovery. From within Doki-Doki players can use Doki-Doki Mail that magically animates anything you type, and lets you communicate in playfully expressive ways with friends who also have the game or the mobile app.

This free game will include fun Doki-Doki Mail messaging app, which players will also be able to get for free on mobile platforms, for cross-platform chat

Hohokum

Created by Artist Richard Hogg and developer Honeyslug, Hohokum is a whimsical colorful game with an emphasis on playful exploration and creativity. You take on the role of a curious flying snake-like character. A technicolor, calligraphic, worm-like, kite-like being! The way you move around the world is very expressive and kinetic and kind of mesmerizing to play.

Flower

Journey developer thatgamecompany’s second game, Flower, is headed to PlayStation Vita. Using simple touch or motion controls, the player guides the lead petal and accumulates a swarm of flower petals as he moves at his own pace within the environment, causing the on-screen world to change. Flower’s gameplay offers different experiences, pacing and rhythm to all players. Along the way, the environment will pose challenges to the player’s progress.

Invizimals: The Alliance

Sony announced that Invizimals: The Alliance will be released this October. The company said using cutting-edge augmented reality, you’ll be able to track Invizimals in your garden, on the bus or in the playground (Invizimals are everywhere!); capturing your favorites to build a collection of 150 Invizimals.

Luftrausers

A dogfighting action game by Vlambeer, Luftrausers game will have 125 different combinations of plane guns, battleships, submarines, bodies, and engines for you to take through the over 100 missions.

Malicious Rebirth

The PlayStation blog announcement explains that the Vita version of Malicious Rebirth will offer more levels, bosses, and powers to acquire than the PS3 original.

The game is all about fighting bosses in any order and using their powers to defeat the remaining goliaths. The key to survival lies in your timing with Aura, which you can use to heal yourself or perform powerful attacks on well-defended bosses, so you’ll want to go for chain attacks to acquire Aura quickly.

Open Me!

Sony has confirmed that the title, “Open Me!”, will be available in North America sometime in 2013. The entirely original puzzle game exclusively for PS Vita is a simple game where you need to open the box and collect the items inside. This may sound easy, but these boxes are full of traps; players will need to use Vita’s augmented reality features to look closely at the boxes from every direction, looking for the slightest hint on how to open them.
