HAVEn is “Radical + Awesome Approach” for HP Channel, says Avnet’s Patrick Stewart | #HPDiscover

Patrick Stewart, VP & GM, Avnet Technology Solutions, discussed Avnet’s collaboration with HP from a channel partner’s perspective with theCube host John Furrier, live at the HP Discover 2013 conference today.

“HP is a great company to work with,” Stewart said, explaining Avnet collaborated with HP’s software side of the business. HP’s channel programs are really friendly and they drive a lot of business to the channel partners. Asked to point out the advantage of HP as a channel partner, he mentioned “the depth and scale that HP brings.”

“We think HAVEn is a radical approach and an awesome approach especially for the channel,” Stewart said about  HP’s new open business analytics platform.

Commenting on Avnet’s strategy, Stewart said the company strives to “stay close to our channel partners and to their customers and listen to them.” Software solutions have to solve a problem for end customers. “We have to stay very close and keep an ear to the ground to see where the technology is going. Based on the depth of services we can offer, we can help our partners” and do the heavy lifting for them.

Same problems, faster problems

“The current market for the CIO is very difficult,” Steward said, as they face a lot of challenges. The challenges are the same as they were 10 years ago, “what’s different is the velocity, how quickly things are changes.”  They have to face a double challenge – how to solve the business problems and keep up with technologies emerging and changing at a very fast pace.

“[The] CIO has to be able to look at what is his core business is” and think ‘how do I serve that core?’ If your business allows you to outsource the Data Center and focus on applications, “I suggest you do that,” he added. You outsource when your core business allows you to. This is what CIOs are doing now with cloud, they are starting to take advantage of private and hybrid cloud. “He’s got to be as competitive as a public cloud offer.”

Asked what HP needed to work on as channel partner, Stewart said it is “what they’re working on right now. It’s taking this broad set of the solutions that they have and compiling it in a specific solution for customers.” Leveraging its broad range of products HP needs to find ways to “create really high value solutions for our end customers.”
