PernixData FVP Expands Flash Tech Beyond Primary Use Cases : Good Replacement Server

PernixData, a company that specializes in virtualizing technology, recently announced PernixData FVP, boasting the industry’s first and only hypervisor for server-side flash, is now generally available.

PernixData FVP virtualizes all server-side flash into a clustered acceleration tier that enables IT administrators to quickly, easily, and cost-effectively scale-out storage performance completely independent of storage capacity.

“Storage has long been a war-of-boxes with marginal innovation,” said Satyam Vaghani, CTO and co-founder of PernixData.  “PernixData FVP is a giant leap from the storage status quo in that it brings a scale-out microsecond level storage acceleration tier ro every workload, in every virtualized data center.  Its enterprise-class features and unparalleled benefits make it a strategic infrastructure investment that will fundamentally change data center storage design forever.”

  • Redefining Storage Performance for the Virtual Generation

With PernixData FVP, there is no need to change VMs, servers or storage and it is installed in minutes.  With a few clicks of a mouse, IT teams can aggregate available server-side flash into clusters that are used to satisfy the storage performance needs of the virtualinfrastructure.

  • What makes PernixData unique

Scale-out performance independent of storage capacity – Increased storage performance across an entire data center is as simple as clustering more server side flash.

Seamless deployment – It leverages the investment on infrastructure that companies already have in place.  It is deployed in less than 20 minutes without having to change Vms, servers or primary storage.

Clustered platform compatible with all VMware operations – It uses patent-pending Flash Cluster technology that enables any host to remotely access flash devices on any other host in the cluster.  This technology enables PernixData FVP to seamlessly support all VMware operations and products such as vMotion, DRS, HA, Snapshot, VDP, Site REcovery AManger, Horizon View and vCloud Director.

Full read and write accelerations with fault tolerance – It is the only server side solution to support full read and write (write through/write back) acceleration for maximum performance across all virtual applications.  Writes are replicated across clustered hosts to ensure complete fault tolerance.

FVP expands flash’s potential beyond primary use cases

“If I step back and look at flash on the server side, there’s two primary use cases.  One is, if I just put a flash card in a server and I use that for really high performance solutions, but it’s only in the server,” explains Wikibon Senior Analyst Stu Miniman during an appearance on our Live NewsDesk Show with Kristin Feledy.

“Think about what Fusion-io has done, especially some of their really large accounts.  It’s a great solution for very specific applications that really need super high performances.

“The second thing that people have uses flash for is just for cash.  We put the card in, I’m spending a bunch of money and really just for cash and therefore I need to go for that external array if I need to use it,”  Miniman says.

“Wikibon has really [noted] that both of those use cases, while useful, are kind of limiting. And what PernixData is looking at doing is making that server-side flash much more usable.  Actually make it a clustered resource rather than just being segmented into a single server.  I can work across multiple servers and it’s not just for reading but it both read and write and it’s really going to accelerate performance,” Miniman added.

Miniman recommends PernixData FVP tho those looking for a new or a replacement server, as it offers a whole solution for flash.
