New in Self-Quantified Health : Smart Toothbrush + More

Living a healthy lifestyle can be tough to maintain, especially when you’ve grown accustomed to eating junk food, drinking alcoholic beverages and forget to keep up with your hygienic needs.  People say that if you want to change your lifestyle, you can, you just have to stick with your plan and not deviate.  And now, because of technology, it will be easier for people to do so.

In this week’s SmartBody roundup, we’ll be featuring a smart toothbrush that will leave your pearly whites squeaky clean, and two smart solutions to keep yourself healthy.

Beam Brush

If you’re one of those people who loses track of whether you brushed your teeth in the morning or before you go to sleep, Beam Brush may just be what you need to keep your pearly whites squeaky clean and your gums healthy.

This unique toothbrush is one of the first that monitors your oral hygiene and connects to a smartphone app via Bluetooth so you can keep track.  You can manually sync your hygiene habits, or automatically sync while using the brush.  The app plays a two-minute song while you’re brushing, as two minutes is the recommended brushing time.  The report on the app can be sent to your dentist so they’ll know what recommendations to give you in order to keep your mouth healthy.

You can now pre-order the brush for $35 but when it goes commercial, it will sell for $50.  It is available in blue and pink, and brush heads are priced at $4 apiece.  The app will alert you when you need to replace the heads so you won’t have to worry about keeping tabs on that either.

Withings

Withings offers a range of products that will help you get started in living a healthy life.

The Smart Body Analyzer is a weighing scale that not only measures your weight but also measures body composition, air quality and heart rate.  A blood pressure monitor that is powered by your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch, an iPod monitor that connects with your iPhone via an app so you can watch what your baby is doing, and the Pulse, a small tracker that keeps track of your movements 24/7, measures your heart rate by placing it at the tip of your finger so you can improve your health, and even monitors your sleep.  Everything wirelessly sync with the Withings apps for Android and iOS.

At the moment, Pulse is not yet available for purchase, but will be soon.

iHealth

Like Withings, iHealth offers a range of smart devices to help you get on the right track.  But unlike Withings, iHealth offers more products for people to choose from that are already available for purchase.

iHealth offers different types of blood pressure monitors that connects to your mobile device.  It has a Wireless Body Analysis Scale that measures weight, body fat, lean mass, muscle mass, bone mass, body water, daily caloric intake, body mass index, and visceral fat rating, aside from allowing you to share your results instantly, set goals, reminders, view trends, and organize records, log calories and daily activities.

iHealth also offers a Wireless Activity and Sleep Tracker which will push you to live a healthier lifestyle, and it even offers a wireless pulse oximeter that lets you know if you’re getting enough oxygen.  The good thing about iHealth’s offerings is that everything can be managed in a single app.  The iHealth MyVitals app is a free downloadable app for iOS and Android.
