New iPhone Launch, People Demand More : Battery, Storage + TV

Fanboys are already on the edge of their seats waiting for news as to what the new iPhone/s will look like and what features it will have to entice them to upgrade to Apple’s newest device.

Here at SiliconANGLE, we’ve extensively covered rumors regarding features of the new iPhone/s, but what do the people want?  We’ve often heard people saying, “The iPhone would be better if it had…”  So we’ve summed up what consumers have often voiced out, highlighting 5 of the top feature requests.

5 features you want in the new iPhone

Longer battery life

This either means equipping the iPhone with a larger battery, or making it removable so people can just replace the battery when it’s running low.  Instead of bringing their Lightning cord or wall charger, they could just bring one or two spare batteries.  Also, it would be great if the batteries can be wirelessly charged.

More ways to share

The new iOS 7 will have AirDrop, a feature which will allow people to share files to people near them via Wifi or Bluetooth.  Though this technology is quite old, as even feature phones allow file sharing via Bluetooth, it’s good that Apple is stepping up its game.

But it would be better if the new iPhone comes with NFC capabilities.  It would allow iPhone users to just bump devices to transfer files, and it can even be used for mobile payments.  Payment via NFC hasn’t gained traction because it was deemed an insecure method.  Apple has been doing better than many of its Android counterparts in terms of security, so if it does equip iPhones with an NFC chip, the sector could be improved and redeemed.

More durable

Samsung and Sony released high end phones that can handle rough conditions, such as being submerged underwater and being dust-proof.  Yes there are accessories available that could protect your iPhone from dust and water, but it sometimes masks the beauty of the device.  If the iPhone comes with these features, it will be durable and as still look classy.  People won’t mind paying $500 or more for the peace of mind.

IR Blaster

Apple is said to be revamping its set-top box to feature ad-free entertainment.  Users would like to see it be more integrated with their iPhones like being able to use their smartphone to change channels, set reminders, save programs, learn more about the programs.

And by doing this, the Apple TV can then be sold without a remote, which is so often misplaced.  By equipping it with an IR blaster, the iPhone can be used a TV remote or even to share files or connect with other phones.

More storage via microSD

In Purchasing an iPhone, if you want it to have more storage, you need to buy a version with more storage which ostensibly means paying more — a lot more.  If Apple allows iPhone’s storage to be expanded using microSD, people can opt to purchase the basic version with less storage capacity and just purchase a microSD which is quite cheap, rather than paying a couple of hundred of dollars for an iPhone with more storage.  It would make the iPhone more affordable (and usable) for consumers.
