QLogic Releases New Adapters for ProLiant Users

QLogic is cozying up to HP with two new adapters for ProLiant Generation 8 blades and ProLiant DL and SL series servers. The adapters feature QLogic’s latest Fibre Channel technology, which offers three times the IOPS and double the throughput of previous generation solutions.

The HP QMH2672 16Gb host bus adapter provides increased bandwidth for I/O intensive apps that run on BladeSystem c-Class servers. QLogic says that the HBA addresses a wide range of network-intensive use cases, including virtualization, media streaming, backup and recovery, data warehousing and online transaction processing.

The HP FlexFabric 10Gb 2-port 526FLR-SFP+ is in turn built for 10Gb converged Ethernet environments. It leverages QLogic’s “battle-hardened driver stack” to simultaneously serve 10GbE, FCoE and iSCSI traffic on the same hardware.

The company says that its newest solutions provide an “additional layer of reliability and security” in the form of port-level isolation. Other benefits include improved VM bandwidth allocation and support for a broad spectrum of third party network solutions.

“QLogic and HP have worked closely together on Fibre Channel solutions for well over a decade,” said Amit Vashi, the vice president of products, technology and planning at QLogic. “HP customers can now take advantage of QLogic’s Gen 5 Fibre Channel and 10GbE high-bandwidth connectivity options to support more virtual machines, achieve improved application performance and drive greater consolidation within the data center.”

Today’s product announcements follow the debut of QLogic’s latest FlexSuite and FabricCache drivers. The packages were launched in conjunction with a new version of the QConvergeConsole Plug-in for vCenter Server, which introduced simplified network management capabilities.

A few weeks prior to the rollout, QLogic CFO and interim chief executive Jean Hu announced that her company is dropping out of the ASIC market in an effort to refocus on its core Fibre Channel business.
