Manage All Your Smart Home Apps with One Hub + More

This week’s SmartHome roundup features a hub that controls all your smart home solutions, a way to turn any surface into touchscreen, and a smart lock that works even without a smartphone.

Revolv Hub

Most home automation solutions come with their own control centers, and most smart devices come with their own apps, allowing you to control your home even when you’re out.  But if you have more than one solution in place, it can be daunting to keep tab of all of them.

Revolv aims to solve this home automation chaos with a simple hub.  The Revolv Hub doesn’t require an ethernet connection — all you need to do is set it in a place with the best wireless range.  It connects to your WiFi using its proprietary FlashLink technology, so setup takes less than a minute.  Revolv features seven different wireless radios that speak 10 different languages, so connecting to all of your device won’t be a problem.  It currently supports Sonos, Philips Hue, Belkin Wemo Switches, Yale Locks, Insteon, GE Lighting products, and as the Revolv Hub gets updated it will be compatible with more and more devices.

The Revolv Hub is coming this fall for $299, and you can reserve your unit now.

Ubi Interactive

Using a projector, a Kinect, and a Windows 8 PC, plus the Ubi software, you can turn any surface into a multitouch display.  Though this technology seems something more appropriate for an office, who says you can’t use it to make family night more interesting?

The basic version is available for $149 and it will deliver a display size of 45 inches.  It can be used to play games such as Angry Birds on your wall if you think your smartphone or tablet screen is too small.  Or if someone’s hogging the TV, you can set this up and just have blast on your wall.

The Ubi software offering calibrates the environment when it starts, so gestures will be better read.

Kevo

Home security may be the number one priority when it comes to smart home automation.  It’s no wonder so many smart locks are coming out.  And one of the latest is Kevo.

Kevo is a smart lock that connects using Bluetooth Smart Ready/Bluetooth 4.0, which is found on iPhone 4S or higher, or with a key fob that comes with the lock.  So even if you don’t have a compatible iPhone, you can still install Kevo in your house.

You don’t need to take your iPhone or key fob out of your pocket or bag when you want to unlock Kevo.  All you have to do is touch the Kevo lock to wake it, and make the connection to your iPhone or key fob.

You can set Kevo to authorize access for family members, service providers and even send e-keys to visitors.  And locking the door is just as easy — just touch the Kevo and you’re good to go.  Even if you leave your phone or key fob inside the house, you can still unlock Kevo using the key that comes with it.

You can pre-order your Kevo now for $219.
